Washroom and hygiene services

Washroom services quotes, without the guesswork

Washroom contracts are sold per unit, per visit, on a term, and the price you compare is rarely the price you pay in year two. We set out what actually drives the number, what the waste rules genuinely require of you, and the contract terms worth reading before you sign. Then we put your site in front of providers who quote it properly.

What you are actually paying for in a washroom service contract

Last updated

Washroom services are sold as a bundle and compared as a headline. These are the lines underneath it: what each one is, why it moves the price, and the question that stops it moving later. Read the last two rows before signing anything.

We publish no price range for washroom services because contracts are priced per unit, per service visit and per site, and the same site can be quoted very differently depending on frequency, term and how much of the consumables spend sits inside the contract. This table lists the components a provider prices and the terms that decide what you pay in year two. The waste rules quoted are from GOV.UK and legislation.gov.uk and are dated to the updated date on this page. Use the form above for quotes on your own site.

What you are actually paying for in a washroom service contract
LineWhy it moves the priceWhat to ask before you sign
Number of sanitary unitsAlmost every contract is priced per unit per service. Unit count, not washroom count, is the core number, and over-supplying units is the commonest quiet overcharge.A unit-by-unit schedule attached to the contract, and what happens to the price if you reduce units.
Service frequencyFortnightly, four-weekly and eight-weekly are all sold. Frequency should follow usage, not a default, and it is the fastest lever on total cost. The frequency the price assumes, and whether you can change it mid-term without a variation charge.
Contract term and renewalMulti-year initial terms are common in this market, and many roll over automatically unless notice is served in a defined window. The renewal, not the first year, is where the money is.The initial term, the rollover term, the exact notice window in writing, and how you serve notice.
Price review clausesAnnual uplifts are common and often indexed or capped at a stated percentage. A cheap year one with an uncapped review is not a cheap contract.Whether uplifts are capped, what index they follow, and a worked example of year two and year three.
Consumables versus serviceSoap, paper, air care refills and liners can sit inside the service price or be billed separately by consumption. Both are legitimate; comparing one against the other is not.Which consumables are included at what usage, and the unit price of anything billed outside.
Waste stream and paperworkOffice sanitary waste is municipal offensive waste, non-hazardous, code 20 01 99. It still has to leave on a waste transfer note with a registered carrier, and above 7kg or more than one bag per collection it must be segregated from mixed municipal waste. The carrier registration number, how you receive transfer notes, and whether they arrive per collection or as a season ticket with a schedule.
Equipment: hand dryers versus paperDryers are capital plus servicing; paper is consumable plus waste volume. Workplace law requires towels or other suitable means of drying, so one of the two has to exist.Who owns and maintains the dryers, what the response time is on a failure, and whether removal at contract end is chargeable.
Water hygiene extrasLegionella risk assessment, temperature monitoring and tap flushing are sometimes bolted onto a washroom contract. They are a separate statutory duty with their own competence requirements. What exactly is included, who holds the competence, and whether it actually discharges your duty or just records readings.
  • Sanitary protection and hygiene waste from an ordinary workplace is classified as municipal offensive waste under code 20 01 99 and is non-hazardous, not clinical waste (gov.uk).
  • GOV.UK states that where a business produces more than 7kg of municipal offensive waste, or more than one bag in a collection period, it must be segregated from mixed municipal waste; below that it can go in the mixed municipal black bag under code 20 03 01.
  • In a washroom contract the renewal clause is often worth more than the headline price: initial terms commonly roll over automatically unless notice is served inside a defined window, so the notice date belongs in a shared calendar the day the contract is signed.

We publish no price range because washroom contracts are priced per unit and per visit against your own site.

Frequently asked

How much does a washroom service contract cost?

There is no reliable published figure and this site does not invent one. Contracts are priced per unit per service visit, and the total moves with unit count, service frequency, number of sites, contract term and how much consumable spend sits inside the price. Get quotes on an identical unit schedule.

Is office sanitary waste hazardous?

No. GOV.UK classifies hygiene waste and sanitary protection from ordinary premises as municipal offensive waste, code 20 01 99, waste status non-hazardous. Offensive waste is defined as non-clinical, non-infectious waste that may simply be unpleasant to handle.

Do I legally need a sanitary waste collection?

You need to handle the waste correctly. GOV.UK requires municipal offensive waste to be segregated from mixed municipal waste where you produce more than 7kg or more than one bag in a collection period; below that it can go in the mixed municipal black bag. For most workplaces a service contract is how that duty gets met in practice.

What paperwork should my washroom provider give me?

A waste transfer note for each collection, or a season ticket covering up to a year of transfers with a schedule of each collection, plus their waste carrier registration number so you can check them on the Environment Agency public register. You must keep the notes for 2 years.

Does my workplace have to provide soap and hand drying?

Yes. Regulation 21 of the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 says washing facilities are not suitable unless they include soap or other suitable means of cleaning, and towels or other suitable means of drying, alongside clean hot and cold or warm water.

Should legionella testing be part of a washroom contract?

It can be bundled, but it is a separate duty with its own competence requirements under the HSE's Approved Code of Practice L8. If it is in the quote, ask exactly what is covered, who holds the competence, and whether the work amounts to a risk assessment and control scheme or only recorded temperature readings.
